I just recently returned from my ever brief vacation….over the balcony again!!!! Mom MUST stop being lazy!!
Sydney and I were on the balcony last night with mom and dad. I was actually behaving for a change…at least for a little while. I demonstrated my sheer excitement by flapping my wings and bouncing up and down and would look to the side with my devilish look giving mom a slight inkling of my potential intention… of jumping to the balcony ledge.
She leans these poles against the balcony walls as a deterrent because sometimes, just sometimes, these “things” frighten me and keep me away from anything near them. But…..if I am too excited, I can quickly forget about my fears!
A new neighbour came by and looked up at me and started talking with my mom. He said that he used to have a son just like me! They started talking, but so did I. He really was interested in getting my attention and as always, I RELISH attention… especially from new people!
When mom wasn’t looking, I jumped on the ledge! Mom was trying to get me to step on her hand but she knew that she would lose at this game of wit and might. She didn’t want to coax me too much because she knew that if she pushed too much, I would just test her and jump. I mean, “come-on”… there was a new guy wanting to see me and I really wanted to oblige.
So I jumped! But unlike most past incidences…. instead of gradually floating to the ground, the two primary feathers that had grown back on each wing, gave me enough lift to really take off. How exhilarating! I started off on the second floor so really, I didn’t need lift – I merely needed to maintain my height! I did want to visit the neighbour but I overshot him by many meters and landed on a nearby tree. Fun for me, not so much fun for mom.
She told me that she wasn’t as concerned because there was someone on the ground watching over me but I know she was still a bit bothered. The guy got me down from the tree. I didn’t make it easy for him, he had to climb on a fence to get me because I am a bit lazy and didn’t want to climb down… not without a reason. The reason would have been a nut or just time.
I didn’t get punished this time which was surprising but my mom re-learned her lesson… NEVER let a larger birdy go outside if ANY primaries have grown back….cut them first!
